The ChildLamb operational group adapts lamb meat to the diet of children

The operational group ChildLamb It is led by CONSULT, It aims to evaluate the impact of different processes on the preparation and preservation of two meat products derived from sheep meat and adapted to the feeding of lactating mothers and children.

From the analysis of the results obtained, it resulted that the proportion of boneless meat from the three carcass parts studied—hand, neck, and breast—should be evaluated.

The technological trials of the various phases were initiated as early as 2021 and the project developed two formulas of lamb soups for babies, based on carrots and peas, and one of hamburgers.

To make the final correlation with the taste and acceptance of consumers, the project was present at the International Science Festival 2022 (FIC.A) in Porto Salvo, Oeiras. About 150 children between the ages of 4 and 6 from the preschool education had the opportunity to try a soup and a hamburger in a tasting event, where the CONSULT It conducted small surveys of children and adults, obtaining very interesting results, with the acceptance by the target audience being particularly noteworthy.

The project aimed to promote the introduction and consumption of lamb meat, with parts adapted to the feeding of infants and children, and ended in December 2022, The project results are now being published on the website at: www.childlamb.com
