The Development of Labour in Agriculture in Portugal
Against a backdrop of rapid transformation in the agribusiness sector, characterised by pressures relating to production, demographics and technology, CONSULAI has carried out the study ‘The Evolution of Labour in Agriculture in Portugal’, with the aim of analysing the structural changes in agricultural labour over recent decades and supporting evidence-based decision-making. The study confirms that Portuguese agriculture is now a more productive and technologically advanced sector, but also one that is more dependent on new forms of work, labour immigration and technical skills, whilst facing significant challenges in terms of an ageing workforce and safety.
An Integrated Approach to Agribusiness
We operate in agribusiness through five complementary areas: strategy, investment, innovation, sustainability, and communication. The articulation of these areas allows us to follow the value chain in an integrated manner and structure consistent responses to complex challenges.
-
Strategy
We define strategies in complex contexts within agribusiness. We analyse information, develop studies, conduct assessments and due diligence, and structure planning processes. We support entry, growth, and consolidation decisions with technical depth and measurable economic impact.
-
Investment
We structure agribusiness investments from conception to implementation. We develop technical, economic and financial feasibility studies, prepare business plans and assist with applications. We ensure solid investment decisions and workable operations, with close monitoring throughout the entire process.
-
Innovation
We promote innovation driven by concrete agribusiness challenges. We structure collaborative research and innovation projects and mobilise strategic partners for their execution. We develop solutions with practical applications that enhance competitiveness and differentiation in the sector.
-
Sustainability
We integrate sustainability into agribusiness decisions and operating models. We assess impacts, define adaptation strategies, and support transition processes. We transform regulatory requirements into gains in efficiency, resilience, and value creation throughout the value chain.
-
Communication
We enhance communication in agribusiness. We develop and implement communication plans, organise events, and promote knowledge-sharing initiatives. We position public and private organisations, strengthening their relevance and influence both inside and outside the sector.

The Space Where Agribusiness Meets
We select and organise events that promote dialogue and knowledge sharing in agribusiness. These are meeting points where public and private organisations can reflect on complex challenges, exchange experiences, and identify opportunities for the future of the sector.
