Technological innovation assesses the equipment and information systems adopted. Profitability measures the economic performance of the activity. Animal welfare reflects the conditions of handling the herd.

Why it is relevant to distinguish these exploitations

Extensive livestock farming in Portugal and Europe faces pressure that translates into a reduction in livestock numbers and the area of land used for grazing. Giving visibility to farms that have found solutions to produce in a profitable and sustainable way is one way to show that this combination is possible and to make these solutions replicable in other regions.

This is the meeting point between the prize and the Grazing4AgroEcology, a European project that seeks to encourage the practice of pastoralism and halt the decline of extensive pastoralism in Europe, of which the CONSULT It is the national partner.
