The good practices identified in the project COCOREADO They result from the analysis of innovative initiatives in the food value chain. These practices have been grouped according to shared success factors, understood as essential elements to strengthen the position of farmers and bring producers and consumers closer together.
The list should be understood as a reference point and not as a closed model. It is unlikely that a single initiative will encompass all factors, but different combinations can generate positive economic, social and environmental results. They have been identified ten factors of success.
-
Fair and transparent relationships: define clear rules, shared responsibilities, and comprehensible decision-making mechanisms for all participants.
-
Trust between the actors: build lasting relationships based on commitment, predictability, and regular communication.
-
Participation of farmers: integrate producers in the definition of the model, in strategic decisions and in the distribution of the value created.
-
Market orientation: to know the demand, identify opportunities and adapt the offer to the needs of consumers and buyers.
-
Creation and distribution of value: ensuring that economic, social and environmental benefits are recognized and distributed in a balanced manner.
-
Proper governance: establish coordination, leadership and follow-up structures adapted to the size and objectives of the initiative.
-
Cooperation and learning: promote the sharing of knowledge, training and continuous improvement among the different stakeholders.
-
Effective communication: clearly explain the value proposition, the results achieved and the benefits for farmers and consumers.
-
Adaptability: respond to market changes, operational constraints, and changes in the economic or social context.
-
Replication potential: documenting methods and results to facilitate the transfer of the initiative to other territories or value chains.
O COCOREADO it is a project funded by Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Framework Programme (H2020), initiated in 2021. Its goal is to contribute to a more balanced distribution of value in the food chain, reinforcing the relevance of farmers as central actors.
One of the project's main tasks was to collect innovative initiatives from various European countries. These initiatives represent models of mutually beneficial cooperation that can generate greater equity for farmers and have the potential to be replicated in other contexts.
A CONSULT, As leader of the work package “Promoting innovative and fair food systems”, he participated in the selection and analysis of 14 European initiatives. The identified practices constitute a possible roadmap for developing more equitable food systems, strengthening the position of farmers, and improving the link between production and consumption.
The results of COCOREADO They show that there is no single formula for success. There are, however, principles that help to structure initiatives that are more balanced, adaptable, and capable of creating value throughout the food chain.
