CONSULAI and the Alqueva Development and Infrastructure Company (EDIA) are organising an event aimed at reviewing the first year of implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan (CAPSP) and identifying priorities for the coming years. The session will take place on 26 February at the EDIA Auditorium in Beja. The year 2023 was marked as the first year of implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan (CAPSP 2023-2027). Last year's application period, which ran from March to August, was marked by various problems that hindered applications and led to several extensions of the closing date. In the end, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food announced that around 184,000 farmers had applied for the 2023 Single Application, corresponding to a payment amount of around 950 million euros.

Following a year of implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan, it is time to take stock and look ahead to the coming years. This is the theme that has led CONSULAI and EDIA to promote the event “CAP Strategic Plan: An Instrument with a Future?”. The session will take place on 26 February in Beja, starting at 14:30. The opening speech will be given by José Pedro Salema (EDIA).

The first part of the session will be dedicated to the Single Application. Bruno Dimas (GPP) will start by presenting the changes for 2024, followed by a roundtable discussion, which will review the 2023 application and payment process. The roundtable will be moderated by José Filipe Santos (EDIA), and will feature contributions from Francisco Palma, from the Baixo Alentejo Farmers' Association, Nuno Serra from CONFAGRI, and Bruno Dimas from the GPP. The second part of the session will seek to identify investment priorities for the coming years of the EU funding framework. Pedro Santos (CONSULAI) will moderate a roundtable featuring Pedro Lopes (OLIVUM), Tiago Costa (PORTUGAL NUTS), José Palha (ANPOC), and Nuno Faustino (ACPA). Following a plenary debate and the close of the session, a celebratory cured ham reception will be served.
