The event “Pasture Resilience: From Science to Practice” is a joint initiative of the Grazing4Agroecology and Climate Farm Demo projects, of which CONSULAI is a partner, and of AdaptforGrazing, bringing together efforts to promote sustainability, innovation and climate adaptation.
Pastures play a vital role in agricultural and environmental sustainability — they are essential for livestock production, biodiversity conservation, and climate regulation. However, they now face increasing challenges related to climate change, pressure on natural resources, and the need to balance productivity with conservation.
Over two days — 5 and 6 november — this event will facilitate the sharing of knowledge and the discussion of innovative solutions to strengthen pasture resilience.
Topics to be covered during the event include:
- Tools and strategies to improve pasture productivity, diversity and quality;
- Biodiversity and associated ecosystem services;
- Threats and challenges to pasture resilience;
- The importance of linking science, practice and public policy;
- A field visit focused on observing the effects of climate change and the adaptation measures being implemented.
This will be a unique opportunity to share experiences, exchange ideas, and strengthen collaboration networks between research, practice, and management, contributing to a more sustainable and resilient future for our pastures.
The first day of the event, held at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon (ULisboa), will focus on knowledge sharing and the scientific foundations underpinning pasture resilience. Researchers will present tools, practices, and research results, with a session at the end of the day to hear from farmers and explore how these solutions can be applied in practice.
On the second day, the day will be targeted towards farmers and technicians, with demonstrations and observations at Companhia das Lezírias, allowing participants to see in practice what can effectively be done to improve pasture productivity and sustainability.
